Isaac Hers Style: Meet Palma

It is almost Christmas and it is perfect timing for Palma’s style blog.  Her whole look screams holiday festivities!  We met Palma this summer shortly after we opened our doors.  She came in and loved the shop (looking great in everything is a bonus for her).  The day she bought the Warm Spring dress (below), we asked her to participate in our Isaac Hers Style shoot.  I am really happy we did, because she is a lovely woman with a unique and interesting sense of style.

What are your go-to accessories? I often wear a simple leather belt sash and layers of clothing to create different looks, clothing recipes-if you will.  I love my hair stick to put up my hair and my Tuarag silver earrings.

What splurge are you saving for right now? Travel

Has anyone in your life influenced you personal style? My mother always taught me about quality and creativity.  I am influenced greatly by works cultures and my travels.

What 3 things from your wardrobe do you wear most often? My Cydwoq tall boots, over-the-knee socks, and my felt and silk jacket.

What is your most prized possession? Anything comfortable, versatile yet fashionable, and with good pockets!  I love pieces that can be styled different ways.

What attracts you to Isaac Hers? I love to support local businesses and local artists.  I also appreciate unique, well-designed creations.

What are you wearing? I am wearing the Isaac Hers Warm Springs dress paired with some of my favorite things.  My shoes are cydwoq- my favorite brand of shoe made in USA just outside of LA- all veg tanned leathers, natural finishing touches in wood, bone, etc. and non toxic glues, etc.  The hat is handmade from Black Mountain Weavers in Pt. Reyes, CA.  My shell ring is one of those beloved adornments I picked up at a music festival- what is so cool is that it is a completely intact shell with no alteration except the hole for my finger- so you can take it off and look inside and see the spiral- one of my favorite forms of natural genius. Design based on intelligence in nature is important to me personally and professionally. I work with people who specialize in a field called “Biomimicry” that helps all types of professionals understand how to optimize design by taking nature’s cues.

To get Palma’s look try the Warm Springs dress.  Comes in camel and green.

Will Leather Goods – Trunk Show Tomorrow

The countdown is on.  Only 5 days left until Christmas.  Whether your shopping is done and you can now shop for yourself or you need that last minute gift, come see what Will Leather Goods sent us.  Trunk show will be tomorrow, Wed. 12/21 from 6-9 pm.  Sip some wine and pick up one of the goodies shown below!  There is something here for everyone, any age, man or woman.

Lets start with the man in your life.  What do you think about this gorgeous backpack?

Lennon Back Pack - $295

We bet he would like it.  This is the Lennon Backpack.  It has been such a popular bag that there are very few available anywhere.  It may actually be possible that this is the ONLY Lennon bag in Tobacco left for the holidays.  I actually checked online and couldn’t find one.   We only have one, so get here early and snag the rare last one.

Ammunition Bag - $135

Then there is the ammunition bag for.  I swear this is perfect for a photographer.  It has four interior compartments, which are just the right size for lenses.  While a girl can certainly rock this bag, its rugged appeal makes it another perfect gift for the guy in your life.

OK, now for the ladies.  The La Manta Backpack is cute and still really casual and rustic.  Made from durable canvas and vintage mexican blankets, this pack will weather well in this Portland wet weather.  As an added touch, the pack harnesses are made from vintage miner’s suspenders.

La Manta Back Pack - $175

I could go on about all the other styles, but I think I will just leave you with tantalizing photos and suggest you get over tomorrow night to see them in person.  Here you go!

Small Dhurrie Crossbody - $200

Guatemalan Carryall - $95

Utility Tote - $195

Small Army Tote - $185

Isaac Hers Style-Behind the Scenes

Ok, these photos are from the style shoot before Thanksgiving.  How is that for being derelict in getting them up!  The only thing that makes this OK is that they are the portraits that are going to go up on our blog next!  So, in one way, they are absolutely fresh and on point (that is what I will keep telling myself anyway).

Got An Art Lover on Your Gift List?

We have the amazing work of Sam Roloff in house through the end of the month.  The series at the shop is “Women of Portland.”  These gorgeous works are based on local women, some prominent, but most not.  Each tells the story and captures something special about the about both the form and essence of the subject.  If you have an art lover on your gift list, come on over and take a loot at his work.

If your budget isn’t quite sized for an original piece of work, you are in luck.  We also have a bunch of prints of this series for only $30.  Awesome!

Sam is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, but has resided in the Portland area since 2002.  Sam’s background and body of work are impressive and span the globe, but most importantly he is an amazing human being.  We just love him and his work and we are thrilled to have it hang in the store for the month!

Isaac Hers Supports Dress for Success

The holiday season brings a lot excitement with all the parties and events, but it also brings into focus our blessings.  In order to celebrate our blessing and help those who are less fortunate, Isaac Hers is raising money for Dress for Success Oregon.  Many of you have probably given clothes to this organization, but they also need money.  There are many things they need to supplement the clothing donations (plus sized apparel, shoes, handbags and underwear).  Our goal is to raise $500 (at least) by the end of the month.  We picked this number because it is the amount it takes to support 1 woman through the 1 year program.  This includes apparel, resume development, interview coaching and general career counseling.   The program is so wonderful because it gives women the self confidence to grow into self-sufficiency.  When you stop in to shop, give a hand up.

The mission of Dress for Success Oregon is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.  Since 1999, Dress for Success Oregon has served more than 13,000 women in Oregon and SW Washington.

Well known as an organization that provides professional clothing, they are also committed to getting low income women’s lives back on track through their Professional Women’s Group and their Career Center. These programs provide low-income women support groups and career mentorship to successfully move from government assistance to self-sufficiency.  Over 160 human service organizations refer clients to Dress for Success Oregon every year. When a woman gets a job, she has access to a full array of services to help her remain employed and financially viable.

Isaac Hers Style: Meet Alisa

It is Holiday time, so it makes sense that we feature the woman that supplies you with great gift ideas that will impress your friends.  Alisa Sloan is the Editor in Chief of City Picks Group, which publishes your favorite weekly shopping and event list, Portland Picks!!  Seriously, if you haven’t subscribed to this newsletter, you should.  You will be in the know about the latest boutiques, restaurants and events.  Alisa has the fun job of skulking about town looking for all the cool spots, shopping, dining, drinking, then writing about it.  Fun!!

Photo: Lavenda Memory, Hair/Makeup: Prima Salon

I met Alisa when I first opened Phlox on Mississippi because she stopped by to check out the new store, of course.  She took a few pictures, posted it on Portland Picks and my website blew up!  Her publication has quite a reach and a loyal following.  On a personal level, Alisa’s bawdy sense of humor will always steal the show.  She is a ridiculously fun person.  We had so much fun at the style shoot, we had to continue the party offsite afterwards!  Love her!!

Occupation: Editor of Portland Picks.com & Seattle Picks.com

What are your go-to accessories? A massive, chunky, curb-link silver bracelet & dangly Grayling chain earrings with a big turquoise drop.

What splurge are you saving for right now? Frye boots—the biker ones that are kind of citified. I plan on wearing them with everything if I bite the bullet & buy them, I’ll have to wear them with everything to amortize the car payment!

Has anyone in your life influenced your personal style? My mom—her look in the late 70s was amazing. Lots of platform shoes and floaty tops, and tons of jewelry, which I have always adored. (We don’t discuss her Chico’s phase. Um. Yeah.)

Photo: Lavenda Memory, Hair/Makeup: Prima Salon

What 3 things from your wardrobe do you wear most often? Bootcut jeans, leggings and tunics. With big boobs it’s a balancing act, and I’m into layering (eg “hiding”) for fall since I spent the summer drinking beer with guys!

What is your most prized possession? I have to choose?!? Probably a black Botkier bag with studded harness straps. Or my blue suede LAMB platforms… I am an excellent bargain shopper.

What attracts you to Isaac Hers? The clean lines and classic shapes—it’s totally fashy without being trendy. I love too that you can find yourself in the clothes—from workwear to going-out wear, it’s like your personality still shines through. You wear Isaac Hers designs—they don’t wear you.

What are you wearing? I fell hard for the Isaac Hers Skyliner Top. Hello—it’s everything I adore—hip-length, waist-defining, and sexy without being overt. Not that I am sexy—but the top definitely is.  Owlita earrings, Joe’s jeans leggings & Miss Sixty boots that I looked all over for & finally found in Phoenix, because Phoenix is a mecca for boots??? I love boots–one of the main reasons I love Portland–you can wear them here 9 months a year.

To get Alisa’s look try the Skyliner Sweater in black!  It is ridiculously popular!
